Brudvig Hockey: how to play and controls

Updated October 8, 2026

Brudvig Hockey 2027 is three-on-three arcade hockey, Red against Blue. You control one skater at a time, and starting takes one button. It's free and runs in your browser, no console needed, so it's a quick alternative to the yearly licensed console hockey game. Here is everything you need to know about the controls and how a game works.

The basics

You play the skater with the ring under him. When your team has the puck, that's always the puck carrier. On defense the game hands you whoever is nearest the puck, and you can switch yourself with the pass button.

A game is three periods of two minutes each, about seven minutes in all. If it's tied after three, it goes to sudden-death overtime: the next goal wins.

It's arcade hockey, so there are no penalties, no icing and no offsides. The play only stops for goals and the end of a period. You can hit anybody, any time.

Phone controls

On a phone or tablet, your left thumb drives a thumbstick and your right thumb gets four buttons in a diamond, laid out like a PlayStation controller.

ButtonWith the puckWithout the puck
Thumbstick (left)SkateSkate
✕ (bottom)Pass: tap for a flat pass, hold for a saucer pass (higher the longer you hold). It goes to the teammate your stick points at when you let go.Switch to another skater
□ (left)Shoot: tap for a wrist shot, hold and let go for a slap shotOne-timer, if you press it as a pass arrives. On defense: dive, laying your skater out across the ice to block
○ (right)CheckCheck: tap for a hit, hold to wind up a bigger one
△ (top)Spin movePoke check

Each button shows a small label saying what it does right now. Once you know them, tap Aa to hide the labels and keep just ✕ □ ○ △. The game plays in portrait or landscape; landscape gives you a wider view of the ice.

Gamepad

A connected controller works the same way as the phone diamond. On an Xbox-style pad, A is ✕ (pass), X is □ (shoot), B is ○ (check) and Y is △ (spin or poke check). On a PlayStation pad the symbols match the buttons. The left stick skates.

Skating and dekes

Skaters carry speed and curve through turns. Hold the stick steadily in one direction for a moment and your skater finds an extra gear for a couple of seconds before he needs a breather. On defense, when you skate away from the puck carrier while facing him, your skater skates backwards, staying between him and your net.

To deke (or dangle), flick the stick quickly from one side to the other while you have the puck. The puck goes wide to the new side, and a poke check from the side you left misses.

Shooting

A quick tap of shoot snaps off a wrist shot: fast to release, good from close in. Hold the button and you wind up a slap shot, which goes off when you let go. It's much harder, but the wind-up takes time and a defender can get to you first. Press shoot just as a pass reaches you and you take it as a one-timer, straight off the pass.

Checking

Tap check for a quick hit. Hold it to wind up a bigger one. A good hit knocks the puck loose, and a big enough one throws a player into the glass hard enough to crack it, or shatter it. The biggest hits play in slow motion.

Diving to block

On defense, without the puck, press □ to dive. Your skater lays out along the ice in the direction of the stick and slides, a wall for shots and passes. A puck carrier who skates into him trips and goes flying. It takes him a moment to get back up, so pick your moment: a dive that misses leaves a gap.

Getting on fire

Score two goals in a row with the same skater and he catches fire. He skates faster, shoots harder and hits harder, and goalies have a hard time seeing his shots. It lasts about 45 seconds, or until the other team scores, whichever comes first.
