Brudvig Hockey tips and tactics

Updated October 8, 2026

Learning the buttons takes a minute. Winning takes a little more. These are the habits that make the biggest difference in Brudvig Hockey, whether you're playing the computer or a friend.

Scoring

Pass first, then shoot

The best chance in the game is a one-timer. Carry the puck to one side, pass it across to a teammate, and press shoot the moment it arrives. The goalie has to move across with the pass, and a one-timer is off before he's set.

Wrist shots up close, slap shots with space

A wrist shot comes off your stick at once, so use it in tight or when a defender is closing in. Save the full slap shot for when you have room: the wind-up gives someone time to step in and flatten you.

Make the goalie move

Skating straight at the goalie and shooting is easy to stop. Cut across the front of the crease instead. The goalie bites on the deke and leaves the far side of the net open.

Dangle the defender

A quick side-to-side flick of the stick with the puck sends it wide to the other side. Do it as a defender reaches for the puck, and his poke check hits nothing but ice.

Saucer it over a diver

Tap ✕ for a flat pass; hold it for a saucer pass that lifts off the ice. When a defender lays out across a passing lane, a saucer floats over him.

Use the spin move

When a defender lines you up, press △ to spin out of the check and keep the puck. Do it a beat before the hit lands, not after.

Defense

Switch to the right skater

The game gives you the skater nearest the puck, but sometimes the better choice is the one between the puck and your net. Press ✕ (or E) on defense to switch.

Time your hits

A wound-up check is huge, but the wind-up takes a moment. Start it as the carrier skates toward you and let it go when he's close. A quick tap is better when he's already beside you.

Dive to block, but pick your moment

Without the puck, □ dives: your skater lays out along the ice to block shots and passes, and a carrier who skates into him trips. It's the best way to stop a shot from the slot or cut off a cross-ice pass. It also takes him off his feet for a moment, so a dive too early lets the carrier skate around you.

Poke check when you can't hit

Without the puck, △ is a poke check. It's a fast way to knock the puck off a stick when you're reaching from behind or the angle is wrong for a body check.

Momentum

Feed the hot hand

Two goals in a row by the same skater puts him on fire: faster, harder shots and bigger hits. Once he's lit, get him the puck. It lasts about 45 seconds, or until the other team scores, whichever comes first.

Put out the fire

If your opponent has a player on fire, the fastest way to put it out is to score. Otherwise it burns out on its own after about 45 seconds. Until then, hit him whenever he touches the puck.

Watch the clock

Periods are only two minutes, so a one-goal lead late in the third is worth protecting. Keep the puck moving, and don't give it away with a long slap shot from your own end. Tied at the end? Overtime is sudden death, so be bold.
